Salvage Inspections
SALVAGE INSPECTION PROCESS
- Go to https://www.michigan.gov/sos/-/media/Project/Websites/sos/Vehicle/Salvage-Vehicle/tr13a.pdf to print of the TR-13A form.
- Fill out all Parts (1-4) of the form. YOU MUST HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY A MICHIGAN CERTIFIED LICENSED MECHANIC WITH A STATE ISSUED MECHANICS NUMBER AND HAVE THEM SIGN OFF THAT THE REPAIRS WERE DONE CORRECTLY AND THE VEHICLE IS ROADWORTHY. (See Part 4 of the TR-13A) Even if there was only cosmetic damage to the vehicle, this step must still be done.
- Once the TR-13A form is completed and all repairs are done, call the Negaunee City Police Department at (906) 475-4154 to make an appointment. Ask for Officer Rae or Officer Myers. Please note that the appointment will be made for when the Officers are available and have time to complete the inspection. Please note that all vehicles are inspected at the Negaunee City Police Department. No house calls.
- On the day of your inspection, bring the following:
- The vehicle to be inspected. (Don’t forget the keys if you are trailering the vehicle.)
- The completed TR-13A.
- Receipts for all parts replaced or work done on vehicle.
- The title for the vehicle.
- Proof of Insurance. (If you are driving the vehicle to our location.)
- Your driver’s license.
- $100.00 inspection fee. (Checks / Money Orders can be made out to the City of Negaunee.)
- Upon arriving at the City of Negaunee Police Department, bring all documents inside and meet with Officer Rae or Officer Myers. We will go through the paperwork together and make sure everything is correct. Please note that while the vehicle inspection is being done, you are not allowed in or around the vehicle. You will be able to wait in the library upstairs or go downtown for a bite to eat or to visit our local shops. Once the inspection is completed, Officer Rae or Officer Myers will contact you to let you know the vehicle is ready.
- Upon completion of the Salvage Inspection, you will receive from Officer Rae or Officer Myers all of the paperwork you brought, along with a TR-13B, and a receipt for your payment. The Secretary of State requests that you wait at least 24 hours upon the completion of the Salvage Inspection to bring all of this paperwork to the Secretary of State to apply for your new Salvage Title.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact the Negaunee Police Department at (906) 475-4154, and ask for Officer Rae or Officer Myers. If they are unavailable at the time of your call, you will be forwarded to their voicemail and you can leave a message. They will return your call at the first available opportunity.
