Notice of Project Plan Public Hearing - Negaunee Ishpeming Water Authority
Negaunee Ishpeming Water Authority will hold a public hearing on the proposed DWSRF Teal Lake Well project for the purpose of receiving comments from interested persons. The hearing will be held at 4:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the Negaunee Ishpeming Water Authority, 1800 N Rd, Ishpeming, MI 49849. The purpose of the proposed project is to install a new well to improve the quality of water and to meet the increasing requirements of regulations. The existing well system blends water from various locations across the North Carp River Aquifer to maintain a high standard of quality water for residents and the new well will improve on that standard. The construction will include the installation of a new production well near Teal Lake, a transmission line from the well to the treatment facility, and improvements to the current treatment process. The negative impacts expected with the proposed project is the potential for rate increases. Positive impacts include increased water quality, long term production reliability, and improved quality of treatment. The estimated cost to users for the proposed project will be $1,900,000.
Copies of the plan detailing the proposed project are available for inspection at Negaunee Ishpeming Water Authority, City of Ishpeming, and City of Negaunee. Written comments received before the hearing record is closed on May 17, 2023, will receive responses in the final project plan.
