Negaunee Arbor Day Celebration: Community Growth Award Recipient Announced

The City of Negaunee will celebrate its second annual Arbor Day Celebration under the Tree City USA Program, today, June 13th, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Jim Thomas Pavilion, the public is welcome. Refreshments will be served after a short presentation. During the presentation the mayor will read aloud a proclamation and a tree will be plated in honor of a resident under our Community Growth Award program.

Qualifications and criteria for this award includes:

Qualifications

1.         Must have been or currently be a resident of the City of Negaunee.

2.         Must not have a criminal record.

3.         Must not have received this award before.

 

Criteria

1.         Recipient must have been involved in a service to their community. Such activities include membership or association with city, local, state or federal agencies; US military service, non-faith-based community service organizations, faith-based community service organizations, and educational facilities. Members of an organizations that operates strictly outside the corporate boundaries of the City of Negaunee are ineligible.

2.         Recipient must demonstrate what their service to the community is or was.

3.         Recipient may be living or deceased.

4.         Nominations may be solicited.

 

The Community Growth Award is presented to a past or present Negaunee resident who has demonstrated through their works, a dedication to public service and commitment to the people of Negaunee.

This year's recipient, Anna Mattson, was chosen by the Tree Board for her many years of volunteerism, especially working under the Negaunee Beatification Committee. Residents are encouraged to help celebrate this honor by attending this event.
