Community Contributions Grants (WPPI)

community contributions

The City of Negaunee is pleased to announce this year’s Community Contributions Grant awardees. Earlier this spring, the city accepted applications of qualified organizations. Organizations must be non-profit and within the city limits of Negaunee, funds must be expended to help the overall organization or public at-large (cannot be for an individual), and could not have received this grant the year prior.

In total, $24,617.00 have been given through this program since 2006.

This year the City Council set aside $1500 in grant funding. Funds are made possible through community relations funding from WPPI Energy, the not-for-profit wholesale power provider and joint action agency of which Negaunee is a member-owner.

This year’s Community Contributions Grants include the following organizations: Negaunee Irontown Association: $500 to help with Pioneer Days fireworks and costs to run this event. This is the 44th year the association has sponsored Pioneer Days. It is also the 150th year of Negaunee officially becoming a city, St. Vincent DePaul Society: $500 to purchase mobility equipment to help those in need with medical necessities, and St. John’s Episcopal Church: $500 to convert old gas stoves to electric ranges to comply with fire code as they work towards creating a preschool classroom.

Questions concerning this release may be directed to the attention of the City Treasurer, Brian Downing at (906) 475-7700 ext. 16.
