City of Negaunee Economic Development Magazine Published

Negaunee Moving Forward magazine

The City of Negaunee has recently published its first ever economic development magazine, “Moving Forward”. The magazine will replace the annual Moving Forward event that relayed the economic status of Negaunee and the efforts taken by the city and other partners in developing the economy of Negaunee.

“Our goal was to reach more residents with our message on what’s happening in Negaunee as it pertains to economic development. We feel by providing this yearly publication that we will meet this goal,” City Manager Nate Heffron said.

According to Heffron, Negaunee is experiencing some exciting and incredible changes since the adoption of its five-year Moving Forward Economic Development Plan.

Now into year three of this five-year plan, this magazine will inform business owners, investors, and residents alike, about the Moving Forward efforts. This publication includes the pathway to become a Redevelopment Ready Community, perspectives from partner organizations, stories on new businesses that have moved into the Downtown, current and future infrastructure investments, and much more.

“Negaunee’s team of city-staff, professional consultants, engineers, business leaders, as well as the City Council have been lock-in-step in making long-lasting positive changes to Negaunee’s economy. This dedication of promoting the long-term success of the community is what drives this mission,” Heffron said.

Negaunee’s name is said to come from an Anishinabemowin (Ojibwa) word “nigani,” meaning “foremost, in advance, leading,” summed up to mean, Negaunee is “always looking ahead.”

An online version of the magazine will also be made available on the city’s website. “In addition to the online version, we will have a few spare copies on hand. We hope to use both the online version and the extra copies as promotional materials to attract developers,” Heffron said.

“If you haven’t received this magazine yet, you will soon, I invite you take some time to peruse this publication and learn more about the economic development activities and projects happening in Negaunee”, Heffron said.
