Art in the Park

Sisu Negaunee art

June 6th marked the inaugural date of the Art in the Park Program, a partnership between Honor Credit Union of Negaunee, the Negaunee High School, and the City of Negaunee.

Students, teachers, and community members attended the June 6th event that revealed the Art in the Park project at the Jim Thomas Pavilion in Jackson Mine Park in Negaunee.

The overall program was conceived by Honor Credit Union and is managed through them. Student artists provide ideas through their high school art class for murals. The murals are vetted through their teacher and Honor Credit Union, with some input by the city.

The student painted murals are displayed on kiosks that are double sided and built by the high school shop class. The kiosks are designed with a smaller roof to help protect the murals from moisture damage and each side has a plexiglass covering.

Honor Credit Union will work with the high school and students to replace the current artwork overtime to allow for new artist to display their talent. At that time, the current murals will be given back to the artist to do with as they wish when this occurs.

Space was provided by the city to allow easy public access along the Iron Ore Heritage Trial for viewing.

The following students were selected to have their art on display at Jackson Mine Park: Chloe Popko, Danielle Saynor, Elizabeth Gleason, Emily Marker, Ethann Brown, Eva Gleason, Jordan Guenette, Mackenzie Rae, and Norima Korsman.

The following shop students built the kiosk stations: Courtney Beckman, Caleb Bero, Patrick Byman, Owen Debelak, Gavin Downey, Bryce Foisie, Madison Frustaglio, Ava Gustitis, Jacob Hatch, Cheyenne Holcomb, Howard Johnson, Jarin Johnson, Jacob Korpi, Olivia Lunseth, Alec Nelson, Alex Ossenheimer, William Rosten, James Thomson, and Mason Ulvila.

Special thanks to Kimberly Shefchik, art Teacher, and Kevin Bell, shop teacher, for helping to lead their student to a successful project.
