Appointment of DPW Director/City Engineer

City Manager Nate Heffron is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Daavettila as the City of Negaunee’s DPW Director\City Engineer, effective January 1, 2023.

Daavettila, was most recently appointed as Negaunee’s DPW Director, November 18, 2020. Since then, he has worked to help improve operations of the DPW over the last couple years, specifically in the management of the departments’ budget, improving efficiencies, and moving the department toward modernization.

Daavettila, holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University which he obtained in 2009. He has been a licensed Professional Engineer in Michigan with 11 years of experience working in the civil engineering field. As of recent, Daavettila worked for Upper Peninsula Engineers and Architects (UPEA).  

Daavettila’ s new role will help assist the city in improving their speed in project preparation, design, and management, as well as, help to reduce overall costs to the city for certain engineering services. “Negaunee is hyper focused on making repairs to our aging infrastructure. Having someone like Mark, that knows our systems well, will only increase our response time in fixing any issues of today and tomorrow”, City Manager, Nate Heffron said.
