The City of Negaunee is announcing that a temporary campground permit has been issued to the Ore to Shore event coordinators. The permit, which is valid from August 12th to August 14th, will allow tent camping only, up to 200 individuals. The temporary campground will be located within Jackson Mine Park.

The permit, being a special use permit, is required by the City of Negaunee Zoning ordinance. Ore to Shore also had to obtain a temporary campground permit from Marquette County, a fire permit, park use permit, and pavilion use permit.

Ore to Shore will provide additional restrooms and trash receptacles for the temporary campground. No ground fires will be allowed at any of the campsite; however, a group fire area has been authorized and is permitted for the event. Parking in some lots in the area will be limited to permitted users only. Restrooms at the Jim Thomas pavilion and the Iron Ore Heritage Trail will remain open to the public.

Only registered participants of the Ore to Shore event may stay at the campground. Campers may check in on August 12th, but will need to depart by 2:00 pm on August 14th. Those participants interested in staying at the temporary campground may visit the Ore To Shore website (oretoshore.com) to find more information and sign up.

“This is a great opportunity for our downtown businesses to receive an economic boost, City Manager Nate Heffron said.

“We are very pleased to be working with the City of Negaunee on this project and to be able to provide something that will be beneficial to the racers and the local businesses,” Nic Tuma, temporary campground manager said.

According to Tuma, by offering this location to Ore to Shore participants, they will not only be able to experience Downtown Negaunee, but also take advantage of the great trails the west end has to offer.

Questions concerning this release may be directed to the attention of the City Manager, Nate Heffron at (906) 475-7700 ext. 11.
