Garbage Collection Date Changes

GFL logo

The Negaunee City Council agreed to modify the city’s current solid waste collection agreement with Green for Life (GFL), upon the request of GFL. GFL had made this request out of necessity due to numerous issues making it impossible to collect all trash and recycling in one day.

One concern stems for collection after 3pm. The landfill closes at 3pm and any trash picked up afterwards would need to be stored overnight in GFL trucks. This poses a risk to GFL vehicles and staff due to potential garbage fires that could occur.

This change now allows for a two-day pick up. Some residents will still have trash/recycling services on Tuesdays, while others will now change to Wednesdays.

The city will issue a flyer with this information including a map that shows what day a customer will have their trash/recycling collected via mail. Customers are encouraged to contact GFL at 1-800-774-9006 if their pickup day is missed or have other concerns regarding their service.

These changes will be in effect stating on June 4, 2024.

Questions concerning this release may be directed to the attention of the City Manager, Nate Heffron at (906) 475-7700 ext. 11.
