2022 Street and Utility Projects

The City of Negaunee is announcing its 2022 Street and Utility Projects. Projects will take place now through October.

Projects include the Rock Street Wall Project, Gold Street Pavement Project, Buffalo Road Sewermain Project, and the Phase-1 USDA Water Project. A map showing the locations of these projects can be reviewed below.

“The most exciting project this year will be the Phase-1 USDA Water Project. This project includes new sidewalk installation, new watermains, and the paving of several streets”, City Manager Nate Heffron said.

Phase-1 USDA Water Project is a two-year project that will take place starting in 2022 and last through 2023. The total project will replace 12,000 feet of water mains and pave over 2-miles of streets. Streets that will be affected by this project include the following (2022) Pine, Oak, Maple, Peninsula, and Bay De Noc. (2023) Iron, Lakeview, Sheldon, Carr, Carr Street Alley, Burt, McKenzie (1-block), and Water (1-block).

These streets were chosen based on the need to replace watermains. Under the Negaunee’s “dig once policy”, the city takes every effort to make repairs to any infrastructure under the streets before a pavement project takes place. Additional streets will be paved under the Phase-2 USDA Water Project and during the USDA Sewer Project. Both projects are projected to begin in 2024 and last through 2025.

City staff and the project contractors will hold several meetings before and during construction. Affected residents will be notified via mail about the project, what to expect, and who they can contact if they have any questions or concerns.

Questions concerning this release may be directed to the attention of the City Manager, Nate Heffron at (906) 475-7700 ext. 11
