Negaunee
is a community where families and friends can enjoy
themselves year-round. In the winter, we have
the Ice Arena for open skating, birthday parties or
participating in or watching hockey. In the
spring, summer and fall come out to enjoy one of our
parks. Miner's Park boasts a new pavilion and
playground equipment, while Breitung Park offers weekly
concerts by our own City Band.
The
Negaunee Ice Arena is one of the finest indoor ice
facilities in our area. Located at 141 Rail Street,
this City facility was constructed through the generous
assistance of numerous volunteer groups and with donations
from many businesses and residents from our area.
The arena is used daily from late fall through early
spring (winter months) for hockey, figure skating
and open skating. Many different groups and teams
use the facility. However, we attempt to have the
arena open daily to the public. Times vary for each
day. Also, the arena and ice are available for rental
for birthday parties and family gatherings.
From
late spring until early fall the Negaunee Ice Arena
is available for banquets and wedding receptions.
Many dates are available for 2010. For more information
on building rental, please contact the Ice Arena at
475-7900.
The
Negaunee Ice Arena is also home to the Iron Range
Hockey Association. They are a House League Hockey
Association for Mites through Midget levels, both
boys and girls, and the home of the Negaunee Miners
High School Hockey Team. They are affiliated with
both USA Hockey and Michigan Amateur Hockey Association.
More information on this group can be found at www.ironrangehockey.com
Miner's
Park and Breitung Park
Miner's
Park, located at the corner of Maas Street and US-41,
has many amenities for everyone. A new playground
structure was installed in 2009 along with a pavilion.
There are also two basketball courts, a sand-volleyball
court, benches, grills, and open green-space at this
location.
The
pavilion is available for reservations. It can
be reserved at a 4-hour block for $50. There are tables
inside the structure and grills available nearby.
This building can be reserved by calling the Recreation
Department at 475-7900.
When
the pavilion is not reserved it is available for anyone
to use on a first-come, first-served basis.
Breitung
Park, located on Pioneer Avenue near the Negaunee
Fire Hall, is where you'll find the City Bandshell.
On various evenings throughout the summer months,
the City Band puts on concerts for your enjoyment.
The bandshell itself is also available for rental;
however, there is no inside building access.
Call 475-7900 for more information if you are interested
in reserving this space.
