FREEDOM
OF INFORMATION ACT REQUEST (click
link for form):
Freedom of Information
Act request forms are used to obtain copies of reports,
photographs or other documents generated by the Negaunee
Police Department on investigations other than UD-10
Crash Reports.
In
the space provided at the top of Page 1, indicate
specifically what you are looking for. The
information you give will dictate what is compiled
for you. If you have dates and/or names please
include them here.
Just
under this area is where you will provide your personal
and contact information.
The
bottom half of Page 1 is for office use; however,
you may want to read it over as you are responsible
for charges incurred by the compilation of the documents
you request. Page 2 should also be reviewed
before you submit your request.
Return
the form to the Negaunee Police Department in person.
If you cannot come to the Police Department in person,
please call (906)475-4154 to inquire about arrangements
to fax or mail.
A
letter will be sent to you within 5 full business
days from the date your request is received.
This letter will indicate either when you can pick
up your documents and how much they will cost, or
that your request was denied. If your request
is denied, you will be supplied with the reason
and alternate methods of obtaining the documents
if applicable.

NSF/NO-ACCOUNT
CHECK FORMS (click link
for forms):
As of 10/31/2011 NSF/No Account checks passed in Negaunee
will be handled a little differently. The Marquette
County Prosecutor's Office has started a Check Enforcement
Program designed to encourage check writers to make
good on dishonored checks prior to getting law enforcement
involved. Guidelines for handling these types of checks
along with a Check Complaint Form can be accessed
by clicking on the above link. Questions about
this program should be directed to the Marquette County
Prosecutor's Office at 1(877)858-5923 or you can find
more information on their website.
Per
the Marquette County Prosecutor's Office, not all
checks are eligible for this program:
Checks
passed outside Marquette County
Checks
older than 180 days
Post-dated,
pre-dated or altered checks
Checks
passed when both parties knew there were insufficient
funds at the time of the transaction.
Checks
written toward a pre-existing debt
Counterfeit
or forged checks (these should be brought to directly
to law enforcement for investigation and possible
prosecution)
If
the bad check you are seeking help with falls into
any of the above categories (excluding counterfeit
or forged checks), you may choose to seek relief through
an attorney, a collection agency or a civil proceeding
such as Small Claims Court.
