The Negaunee Fire Department is a volunteer department founded in 1868. The department consists of thirty members and five pieces of apparatus headquartered in our historic fire station, built in 1910.

ON APRIL 14, 2005 FIRE CHIEF TOM GARDYKO [left] PRESENTS A CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION TO MR. THOMAS CHAUDIER OF 630 LAKE STREET, NEGAUNEE. MR. CHAUDIER WAS RECOGNIZED FOR HIS BRAVERY IN THE EARLY HOURS OF 01/28/2005 WHEN HE NOTICED THE HOUSE AT 618 LAKE STREET WAS ON FIRE. HE CALLED 911 AND THEN ENTERED THE HOUSE, GETTING RESIDENTS OUT OF TWO APARTMENTS. THIS WAS A FATAL FIRE THAT CLAIMED ONE LIFE, BUT DUE TO MR. CHAUDIER'S COURAGE FIVE PEOPLE WERE SAVED FROM THAT TERRIBLE FATE.
